METALLICA continued its tradition of honoring musical influences during the band’s May 24 concert at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany, when guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo performed a stripped-down cover of “Fast as a Shark” by ACCEPT.
Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.
The performance also arrives at a fitting time, as Hammett himself appears on ACCEPT’s upcoming star-studded anniversary release, Teutonic Titans 1976–2026. On the album, Hammett joins Phil Anselmo and Mikkey Dee for a reimagined version of “Fast As A Shark,” originally featured on ACCEPT’s landmark 1982 album Restless and Wild.
Over the last several tours, METALLICA has made Hammett and Trujillo’s mid-show “doodles” a regular feature of the live set. The performances typically see the pair paying tribute to influential artists with loose, often unexpected covers that range far beyond traditional heavy metal. Usually performed with only bass, guitar, and occasional vocals from Trujillo, the segments have become fan-favorite moments during the band’s concerts around the world.
Meanwhile, ACCEPT is preparing to celebrate five decades of heavy metal history with the release of Teutonic Titans 1976–2026, arriving September 4, 2026 via Napalm Records. Led by longtime guitarist Wolf Hoffmann, the album features 19 reimagined tracks and an extensive lineup of guest musicians from across the metal world.
Among the many collaborations featured on the release, Tobias Forge appears on “Save Us” alongside Ray Luzier, while “Balls To The Wall” includes vocals from Rob Halford and guitar work from Matthias Jabs. Elsewhere, Billy Corgan and David Ellefson contribute to “Love Child.”
Additional guests on the album include K. K. Downing, Bobby Blitz, Hansi Kürsch, Chris Jericho, Ralf Scheepers, Billy Sheehan, Ola Englund, and Jeff Loomis.
The album will also feature a new recording of “Hellhammer,” performed by ACCEPT’s current lineup alongside vocalist Jason McMaster.
