Midnatt – Skräckfylld Förtjusning Review

Oh, boy, I do miss the sound of those raw guitars with intuitive leads, the lo-fi production, the raw taste of Old School Heavy Metal bands. Following the tradition of bands as Oz, Heavy Load, TNT among others we’ve got Midnatt (Midnight) with their debut full-length “Skräckfylld Förtjusning (Delightful Horror).” And they mean it to be the most pure and dedicated headbangers of them all.

To stand out from the crowd, I guess, Midnatt wrote all the lyrics of “Skräckfylld Förtjusning” in Swedish, a very peculiar language in terms of Metal music. However, this peculiarity gives a certain personality to the muic my dear children of the night will listen. It gives the musical signature a band is always looking for. Besides that, there is the right-in-the-face way of songwriting tha avoids complex musical solutions and impresses the sound with that raw intent we all love. Of course, not all tracks are that simple as “Sfinxen” proves with its shifts of tempo and pace with its now traditional guitar galloping. It is so grateful to listen to the twin guitars following vocals and giving the pace to the song. The blasting guitar solos of “Ljuva Midnatt” are one of thenig s I like the most about Metal music as they are a kind of musical identity,

It is interesting to realize how Midnatt‘s music was influenced by the barons of Old School Heavy Metal music. It is so nice to see those notes echoing again in 2026 as if time stopped. “Skräckfylld Förtjusning” is not a travel into time because the album makes the fan feel time has stopped. It is something like a musical parallel dimension where great sounds never fade away with the sounds of the guitars of “Skuggan,” for instance. Or the final chorus of “För Evigt Märkt.” Just remarkable.

MidnattSkräckfylld Förtjusning” will be released on March 27th via Jawbreaker Records.
