There are albums that do not follow established rules what make them impossible to label. Mors Verum – latin for ture death or real death – deliver here a combination of slow and cadenced harsh gutural vocals with instrumentals full of finesse and unexpected solutions that will surprise my dear children of the night. Moreover, there are tracks as “Your Apocalypse” that are a kind of Extreme Metal Free Jazz due to the unpredictable movement of the guitars and, therefore, of the drumming and bass lines that follow them. The song has so many shifts that it is impossible to follow them or, even better, to predict what comes next. Pay close attention to the guitar solo and how it is designed.
“Canvas” is an album that impresses for its combination of vocals and instrumentals. I mean, it is possible to say they are incompatible because they sound to not fit. Mors Verum designed them both to be so and that’s the most impressive thing here. The aggression here is not given by the speed, velocity, or even, the distortion of the guitars by for the sonic incompatibilty of songs as “Your Apocalypse” with all the dissonances and discords it delivers. The fan that listens to it will find some discomfort given by the sonic disharmony created. This is heavy music in musical terms. Tittle track “Canvas“ delivers some more dissonance, however, on the other side of the coin, it follows some standard movements. Well, not so much for untrained ears, but for Mors Verum‘s musical standards. My dear fan will be surprised by the bass and drums moments by the third minute. As I said before, Extreme Metal Free Jazz with some wicked white noise in the background.
The music my dear fan will find in “Canvas” is incredible and extremely well-performed. Jaw-brewking music if you allow me to say. I dare to say that musically it is one of the heaviest albums I have ever reviewed here due to its dissonances and discords. The thing that differs “Canvas” from other similar albums I have heard here is that all the disharmony created sound very natural, not forced. It is the real deal, not a band trying to show it off.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
