MÖTLEY CRÜE brought a major crossover moment to the season finale of American Idol on Monday night (May 11), teaming up with country-pop superstar Carrie Underwood for a high-profile live collaboration.

The special appearance saw Underwood join the legendary rock band for a two-song set featuring “Home Sweet Home” and “Kickstart My Heart,” two of MÖTLEY CRÜE’s most recognizable tracks. Video from the performance quickly began circulating online following the broadcast.

The three-hour finale episode of the long-running singing competition aired on ABC and will be available for streaming the following day on Disney+ and Hulu. Alongside MÖTLEY CRÜE and Underwood, the night also featured performances from SHINEDOWN, Clay Aiken, Jason Mraz, Nelly, EN VOGUE, Tori Kelly, BLUES TRAVELER, and GIN BLOSSOMS, making it a stacked lineup of guest appearances.

For Underwood, the collaboration added another chapter to her history of rock-related performances. She has previously shared the stage with acts such as GUNS N’ ROSES and PAPA ROACH, continuing a pattern of genre-crossing moments throughout her career.

There was also a notable sense of nostalgia tied to the performance. Back in 2009, Underwood recorded her own rendition of “Home Sweet Home,” which was used as the farewell song for American Idol’s eighth season. That connection made the finale duet with MÖTLEY CRÜE feel like a full-circle moment for longtime fans of the show.
