Throughout the entire history of art has been changed by the progressive minds over the course of centuries peppered through the millennia. With each new phase of whatever media you choose be it paintings, music, or theater, there’s always a niche group of people that perform a certain style that the majority of the time tend to sneer at because they find it either too much or simply pointless. In the modern world of music, the realm of noise seems to have taken that spot where few people are willing to explore its expanse. But it’s groups like MRTVI that really push the boundaries of this world to even darkest reaches, and it’s quite the spectacle to behold.
To immerse yourself into the dimension of noise is to immerse yourself into a dark cosmic layer of existence that’s never stagnant. It’s always moving, reforming, taking darkness and turning into a matter that you can touch but can’t feel, taste but you can’t smell, and the kind that permeates your entire being. MRTVI manages to do that with seemingly little effort with his upcoming (yes, this a one man project) sliver of oblivion titled “Negative Atonal Dissonance”. If you thought that metal was weird and harsh, then you better strap yourself in for a trip through a place beyond hell where you can’t even hear your own voice amongst the chaos, and it is all consuming. “Negative Atonal Dissonance” is an album that takes everything great about the style of noise itself and wraps it all into a chaotic shell of pain and torment that’s constantly shifting so that you’re always experiencing a fresh new hell at least once every minute. That’s where the genius of MRTVI comes in. He’s able to take such an obscure concept of creating what could possibly be the sound of the universe imploding on itself and transforming it into an active event the likes of which can’t be comprehended before being heard. It’s the sort of thing that once you start listening you’ll either be immediately turned off by the pure chaos and madness that’s enveloping you, or you’ll become so intrigued by the work that you cannot bring yourself to turn away, and thus continue headlong into the abyss that proceeds to not only stare back into you… but wholly consume you.
Noise will never be a style that is friendly to approach (but many thought the same about black metal and look where that’s gotten us, so who f**king knows) in any capacity, but it is up to a very special group of people that will bring about the wave of noise that will wash over the underground world. MRTVI is one of those groups that has the potential and the raw talent to bring about the tsunami that shows the true potential of the noise style. “Negative Atonal Dissonance” is a f**king magnificent representation of noise as a whole, but I’ve no doubt that this is but the tip of the iceberg for whatever ominous future is ahead of MRTVI.
