Nasty Savage – Jeopardy Room Review

One more Metal big gun is back for more after a long hiatus since 2016. The legend of today is Nasty Savage, one of the prominent and promissing Thrash Metal bands from the 1980s. It is always great to know they were extremely influential in the emergence of early Death Metal scene, inspiring bands such as Death and Obituary. In fact, to some extent, this new release “Jeopardy Room” pays a homage to those bands. By the way, the video we discolsure here has the especial guest appearance of Donald and John Tardy from Obituary.

Nasty Savage rose to popularity primarily due to singer “Nasty” Ronnie Galetti’s over-the-top stage show performances (in early shows Ronnie smashed television sets over his head). The second album “Indulgence,” featuring the hit single “XXX,” was recorded at Progressive Music in Tampa. After releasing three albums and one EP between 1985 and 1989, they broke up. After there had been speculation about a reunion for some time, their last studio album to date, “Psycho Psycho,” was released in the spring of 2004, and the band played occasional live shows before disbanding for the second time in 2012. The band once again reformed in January 2016 and active ever since.

My dear child of the night that listens to this album will soon realizes the band’s unique prone to melt Thrash Metal with Death Metal. And Nasty Savage used to do so back in the 1980s before Death Metal even existed. Their unique flair for revenge can be seen in tracks as album warmer and tittle the breathtaking “Jeopardy Room” with an insane double bass drumming and the crowining finale “Sainted Devil.” By the way, the insane double bass drumming keeps on “Brain Washer” with its Hardcore inspired cadence and mood and chorus. Brain washer is a theme that Hardcore and Punk love to use here and there. There comes Thrash Metal tradition of using them as well. Pay close attention to the guitar striking interventions. Precise, unbeatable, and shredding. Nasty Savage changed a little the mood with the intro to “Southern Fried Homicide” and its cool strumming and mood to in a sudden come back to a cadenced Thrash Metal that reminds Nuclear Assault. Assault is always a great word to express what the band does here. The demented Alice Cooper inspired keyboarding “Witches Sabbath” showcases a band that really knows how to create a mood to the assault that comes after it. Pay attention again on the guitars. Great work here.

“Jeopardy Room” is the comeback album all veteran bands would like to have recorded. It’s feral. It’s blood thristy. It’s heavy as hell. An album to show to your friends with a lot of pride. If my dear child of the night wants a regular Thrash Metal album, this is it. If my dear child of the night wants a Thrash Metal album with some surprises, this is also it.
