Additional details have emerged regarding the March 29th, 2026 incident involving former TURNSTILE guitarist Brady Ebert and William Yates, the father of TURNSTILE vocalist Brendan Yates, as outlined in a police report and statements cited by local media.
According to the police report, the 33-year-old allegedly arrived at the Yates family residence in the Silver Spring, Maryland area and began honking his horn while shouting obscenities toward members of the household, including William Yates’ daughter, her husband, and their young children. Surveillance footage reportedly reviewed by investigators and provided by a neighbor is said to show Ebert acting aggressively from inside his vehicle during the confrontation.
The report indicates that William Yates came down the driveway in an effort to de-escalate the situation and signal for Ebert to leave. At that point, Ebert allegedly swerved his vehicle toward him, prompting William to step back to avoid being struck. Authorities say William then picked up a rock from the driveway and threw it at Ebert’s Buick LeSabre, striking the rear door.
In response, the report claims Ebert reversed his vehicle before accelerating toward William again, this time making contact as he attempted to evade the oncoming car. It was further noted that the incident occurred in close proximity to William’s daughter and her three-year-old son.
Earlier reporting from The Baltimore Banner also stated that Ebert allegedly returned to the scene after the collision while William was receiving medical attention and told him that he “deserved it”.
The police report additionally mentions that Ebert later texted his father requesting $200 for a bus ticket for a friend. Investigators also reference claims from the Yates family that this was not an isolated confrontation, alleging a series of prior incidents in the weeks leading up to March 29th. These include an alleged March 13th encounter in which Ebert reportedly drove near William, shouted obscenities, made a three-point turn, swerved toward him, and gave him the middle finger. Another alleged incident reportedly took place several days later, when Ebert is said to have returned to the property and directed obscenities at William Yates’ wife and a friend.
In a statement shared with Rolling Stone, Turnstile addressed the situation in full, detailing the circumstances that led to Ebert‘s exit and the events that have unfolded since.
“TURNSTILE cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community. After exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence.
“In the years since, his baseless tirades have continued in public. We never addressed it. We chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure, even when he did nothing to be deserving of that protection. Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further.
“This past week, that violence led to a physical attack when Brady went to the house of Brendan‘s parents and used his vehicle to run over Brendan‘s father, causing severe physical trauma. We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery. We have no language left for Brady. Please respect our privacy at this time.”
