Progressive metal titans OPETH have sent shockwaves through their fanbase with the unexpected leak of their upcoming album’s artwork and release date.

In a recent interview with DifferentStagesRadio, which primarily focused on his WHITE STONES side project, OPETH bassist Martín Méndez provided a brief update on the status of the progressive metal band’s long-awaited new studio album.

“It’s still in process.” Pressed about whether he has finished recording his bass parts for the LP, Mendéz said: “Oh, yes. I’m done.” Asked if OPETH fans can expect to hear some new music before the year is out, Martín said: “I think you will hear some news pretty soon.”

Earlier this month, OPETH mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt discussed the band’s upcoming album on Greece’s metal TV show “TV War.”

“What I can say is that we haven’t made like an official announcement of a release date or anything like that. But I can say over the year and a half that we’ve been off the road, we haven’t been doing nothing; we’ve been working on stuff. Actually a lot of work has happened over the years. But we will still keep the cards close to our chest for a little while longer. But, I mean, yeah, there will be stuff coming at some point.”

OPETH‘s latest studio album, In Cauda Venenum, was released in September 2019 via ModerbolagetNuclear Blast Entertainment. Recorded in 2018 at Stockholm’s Park Studios, the effort was made available in two versions, in both Swedish and English languages.
