I somehow get attracted to bands with weird or funny names. However, I always check them out to make sure they are the real deal or just some prank. Well, Old Dirty Buzzard are known band of us all since we have reviewed their 2023s “What a Weird Hill to Die On,” an album that presented the combination of Led Zeppelin with Motörhead as I wrote back then.
“One Foot in the Grave” is a whiskey drenched album I guess that even more than its predecessor. Here the mix Led Zeppelin with Motörhead is more clear even though it does not happen inside the tracks, I mean there is no mix of Led Zeppelin features with Motörhead ones. What happen here is there are tracks inspired on Led Zeppelin and tracks inspired on Motörhead with more emphasis to Motörhead.
To some extent, the Motörhead inspired tracks address a lot to At War, maybe because they covered Motörhead‘s “The Hammer“ as well. Interestingly, I have to say both are very similar. On the other hand, tracks as the nine-minute “Traitor To Your God“ and grande finale “Not My Cross To Bear“ resemble a lot to Led Zeppelin. It happens that the mix of vocalist Kurt Kilfelt harsh tone with some sludgy blues sounds so interesting and somehow refreshing.
I particularly like the way Old Dirty Buzzard deal with things in their music. They are straight ahead with that feeling of an uncompromising attitude. Or just Metal music way of dealing with things. This uncompromising attitude affects directly their music. I felt great about the lyrics in “One Foot in the Grave” because they reveal such a human approach on the themes. For instance, “Bag Of Nails“ was written when vocalist Kurt Kilfelt was in prison – don’t ask me the details, just don’t ask me.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
