On Friday night (August 4), PANTERA made their debut as the support act for METALLICA during the “M72” tour at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey. Fan-filmed footage of PANTERA‘s performance can be viewed below. MAMMOTH WVH also graced the stage with additional support for the concert.
The M72 tour, initiated in late April in Amsterdam, Netherlands, showcases METALLICA performing two separate shows in each city they tour. Each show, known as a “No Repeat Weekend,” presents entirely unique setlists and supporting acts. The tour is also characterized by a daring new stage layout that moves the iconic METALLICA Snake Pit to the center of the performance area.
As previously reported, PANTERA surviving members, Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown, reformed the band with Zakk Wylde on guitar (from OZZY OSBOURNE and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and Charlie Benante on drums (from ANTHRAX).
According to Billboard, the lineup has been given a green light by the estates of the band’s founders, drummer Vincent “Vinnie Paul” Abbott and guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, as well as Brown, who last year said Wylde wouldn’t tour with PANTERA if a reunion were to happen. It’s unclear what changed his mind.
