The upcoming Paul Di’Anno documentary, directed by Wes Orshoski, is set for release in 2025. Orshoski, known for his work on the acclaimed Lemmy and The Damned: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead documentaries, is bringing his expertise to this new project about the iconic former IRON MAIDEN vocalist.
Yesterday (October 21), Wes took to his Instagram to share more than a dozen photos of Paul, and he included the following message: “R.I.P. Paul. Just learned that Paul Di’Anno has passed. Don’t have many details yet. Very sad day.
“As many know, I’ve been working on a documentary about Paul for the past several years, as he has been fighting to get back on his feet — literally, emotionally and professionally. It’s obviously quite sad that it has ended this way.
“I’m very thankful for the experiences and opportunities I had with Paul, and because of Paul. And I learned a lot from him.
“The film will be out next year, and details will be forthcoming — the hope is for it to debut at film festivals in early 2025. I’m very excited for the MAIDEN faithful to see it. Once it is released you will see just how tough his life has been over the past decade and how hard he fought to change it. Maybe he’s finally found some peace.
“Say hi to Clive for us, legend!!! #pauldianno #ironmaiden #killers #wrathchild #cliveburr #runningfree”.
In an interview with George Dionne of KNAC.COM this past August, Di’Anno provided an update on the status of the documentary, saying: “Wes is a good mate of ours. He’d done the MOTÖRHEAD rockumentary. He’d done THE DAMNED [one] as well. And he’s a great guy. We’ve had this in the pipeline for a couple of years now. The unfortunate part about it is we had to take our time in between when he can come over and do this. But the unfortunate thing is I’m sitting in a f**king wheelchair, which is a pain in the a*s, but what are you gonna do?”
When asked whether the documentary would concentrate on a specific period of Di’Anno‘s life or cover his entire journey from start to finish, Paul said: “Everything. But you’ll see the determination sometimes and the despair. And it goes through the whole lot of emotions and stuff. It’s a bit strange.”
Paul Di’Anno, born Paul Andrews, passed away at his home in Salisbury on October 21 at the age of 66.
Paul, born on May 17, 1958, in Chingford, East London, gained recognition as the lead singer of the English heavy metal band IRON MAIDEN from 1978 to 1981. He lent his vocals to their groundbreaking debut album, Iron Maiden, as well as the highly influential follow-up, Killers.
Di’Anno had a prolific career since his departure from the band. He has recorded extensively with BATTLEZONE and KILLERS, released solo albums, and made numerous guest appearances. Even while battling significant health issues that have confined him to a wheelchair in recent years, Di’Anno has continued to captivate audiences worldwide, performing over 100 shows since 2023.
