In a recent appearance on Wired In The Empire, hosted by Radioactive MikeZ of 96.7 KCAL-FM, Matt Montgomery — better known as Piggy D. — opened up about joining Marilyn Manson‘s band and the experience of working alongside the controversial shock rocker during a new chapter in his life.
When asked how he landed the role as Manson’s bassist, the former Rob Zombie collaborator pointed to the tight-knit nature of the rock scene. “Referral. It’s a small, small community. Yeah, the timing worked out. Things are meant to be. I guess that’s the universe working the way it should,” he explained.
Reflecting on his time with the band, Montgomery expressed nothing but enthusiasm: “It’s been really cool to be along for the ride for this rebirth. And the band is killer, and we have a great time, and the shows have been rad. And, yeah, I can’t say or feel any better about it.”
The conversation took a more personal turn when MikeZ mentioned Manson’s sobriety. Piggy D. didn’t hold back in his praise, calling the singer “amazing” and “an inspiration to people.” He continued, “I’m proud to stand next to him, because I think he’s representing hard. And as somebody that’s been in and out of sobriety over the years, it’s amazing to see somebody turn their life around.”
Montgomery added that stories of personal transformation always resonate with him: “It doesn’t matter who they are. It’s always an amazing story. The miracle is never lost on me. You put a microphone in front of it, you can do some good. And it’s cool.”
Matt made his live debut with Manson last August during the opening night of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH‘s summer 2024 arena tour.
