The mystery surrounding the identity of PRESIDENT’s masked frontman may have just unraveled—courtesy of a couple of bracelets.
While rumors have swirled for months that Charlie Simpson (of FIGHTSTAR and BUSTED fame) is the voice behind the rising alternative metal outfit, fans now believe they’ve found the clearest evidence yet. During PRESIDENT’s high-profile debut at the Download Festival on June 15th, sharp-eyed attendees noticed that the band’s vocalist was sporting a very familiar accessory: a pair of bracelets previously seen on Simpson himself.
The band, who’ve drawn early comparisons to SLEEP TOKEN not only in sound but in cryptic marketing tactics and shared management, had already fueled speculation by revealing their singer’s face in the music video for “Fearless”—only to immediately cast doubt on whether the unmasking was genuine or misdirection.
Adding to the intrigue, some fans claim to have spotted members of Simpson’s family watching the show from the side of the stage, further stoking the flames of speculation.
Despite the growing pile of circumstantial evidence, PRESIDENT have yet to officially confirm their vocalist’s identity. Their next live appearance is set for July 30th at The Garage in London, where they’ll be joined by synth-rock duo ZETRA. Whether the masks come off for good—or the mystery deepens—remains to be seen.
