I swear I would never imagine Pyracanda’s music if I hadn’t listened to “Losing Faith.” I know I always say it’s possible to get a band’s music by its name and album tittles, but sometimes this is not exactly correct. This is a true exception to the rule. Well, I never said this is a hard science.
Here is some info about Pyracanda. Originally founded in 1987, Pyracanda hit the scene with their debut album 1990’s “Two Sides of a Coin” in – an explosive mix of high density speed metal & strong melodies. Produced by Armin Sabol (i.a. Rage and Sinner). Influenced by the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and early Metallica, singer Hansi Nefen, the guitarists Sven Fischer & Dennis Vaupel, bassist Dieter Wittbecker and drummer Elmar Gehenzig created a unique blend of furious riffs & lush chord progressions that set them apart from their competitors. Along with labelmates Blind Guardian, Pyracanda were another treasure coming out of the No Remorse Records camp.
“Losing Faith” is the band’s first album after their return in 2020. Musicwise, it sounds pretty different from their original roots. Now the band sounds more as a Thrash Metal Megadeth “A Tout Le Monde” era with its palatable rebellion than the initial Speed Metal. “Spoke in the Wheel” is a great example of what the band does here. There is also very little of early Metallica here. If I could have a word, I’d say “Losing Faith” is what they call Melodic Thrash Metal. That fits much better the music I’m listening here and allows the band to more cadenced and full of irony songs as “As Are More.” Ah, the uncorrect political irony verve of Thrash Metal. Pyracanda are a band that really know how to turn their irony into music.
I guess “Losing Faith” is a great example of album from a veteran band that really goes well in modernizing their music without sounding as a fake or worst. From Speed Metal still remains the energy and the speed with really amazing guitar interventions. I have to say the guitars are the highlight of the album with the songwriting and the band’s agenda. Remember that I love bands with agenda. “What Builds My Pride,” for instance, has great accoustic guitars embellished with some hard knocking cadenced guitars.
An album to say what builds my pride. No pun intended…

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
