San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park Sees 50,000 Fans For SYSTEM OF A DOWN And DEFTONES Performance

System Of A Down Golden Gate Park

A massive crowd of approximately 50,000 music fans descended on San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Saturday, August 17th for the inaugural Golden Gate Park Concerts.

The star-studded lineup, headlined by a rare appearance from SYSTEM OF A DOWN and local legends DEFTONES, quickly sold out all 50,000 tickets. The festival featured a diverse mix of genres, with reunited progressive-punk band THE MARS VOLTA, Swedish punk rockers VIAGRA BOYS, and Australian duo VOWWS also taking the stage.

Interestingly, 90% of the audience traveled from outside of San Francisco to experience the historic event, making it a major draw for music lovers across the region.

Since reuniting in 2011, SYSTEM OF A DOWN has sporadically toured but has released only two new songs in nearly two decades. Inspired by the conflict in Artsakh and Azerbaijan, the band released “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz” in 2020. Dedicated to supporting humanitarian efforts in their ancestral homeland of Armenia, the band raised over $600,000 through song sales and fan donations.

DEFTONES are currently in the studio working on their follow-up to the 2020 album Ohms. The band has reunited with producer Nick Raskulinecz, marking their third collaboration after successfully working together on “Diamond Eyes” and “Koi No Yokan.”
