There are two things about “Phönix aus der Asche” that used to cause me some strangement. First of all, the German language. In the beginning it was very strange to listen to songs in German, but I got used to it after listening to many bands that use this language. To some extent, I think it makes the songs even more aggressive. Second of all, Industrial Metal with all the techno stuff and the dancing noises and et caterva. Well, I still get a little stranged, but it depends on the band. The music Scherbentanz produce please me because the Metal guitars are louder than the techno stuff and all. However, I cannot deny I do it feeling a little shame.
Well, that said, “Phönix aus der Asche” is an EP with three tracks of an alleged Gothic Metal. No, no, no, what I heard here was a very consistent Industrial Metal with a strong techno music verve. All tracks deliver the combination of Metal guitars with the techno stuff and all. Some more than others. Album first kill “Halbes Herz” is more Metal with a very interesting piano that intertwines all the track giving it some uncalled for melody. The guitars are strong and a little low-tuned – not that much. It was the track that got me by the guts due to the contrast of the piano and keyboards with the well-played guitars. I almost did not notice the techno stuff subtly embedded. Then comes the grand finale “Lucia” whose very beginning brings the piano back but mixed with stronger techno stuff. It is a track that leaves a little Metal behind to have the guitars in the background, a thing I do not appreciate, but here it kind of works fine. The combination of the guitars with the effects makes some good noise, what is the main idea of it all. But it is “Schrei für mich” that I do not like. That is all.
I’ll admit I reviewed this album just because of its first kill “Halbes Herz.” “Lucia,” on the other hand, was a track that I could say I could bear. I cannot say the same of “Schrei für mich.”

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
