SCREAMING TREES Bassist VAN CONNER Dies At 55

Van Conner

Sad news to report as Van Conner, founding bassist for SCREAMING TREES, has died. Gary Lee Conner, SCREAMING TREES guitarist and brother to Van, made an announcement on Facebook earlier today (Wednesday January 18) confirming his death at age 55.

Gary wrote: “Van Conner bassist and song writer of SCREAMING TREES died last night of an extended illness at 55 It was pneumonia that got him in the end. He was one of the closest friends I ever had and I loved him immensely. I will miss him forever and ever and ever…”

In 1985, Van formed SCREAMING TREES in Ellensburg, Washington with Gary, frontman Mark Lanegan and percussionist Mark Pickerel. After their dissolution in 2000, he continued to craft music alongside his friends and family members.

As one of the foremost pioneers of Seattle grunge during the 1990s, SCREAMING TREES joined other iconic bands such as THE MELVINS, MUDHONEY, SOUNDGARDEN and more in revolutionizing music. Throughout their career they released seven albums, five EPs and three compilation albums.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by this incredible loss.
