It’s only here at Metal Addicts that my dear child of the night can jump from a putrid Death Metal band to a Symphonic Metal band in the flesh of an eye. To honor Metal music here acquires a larger than life status. We do our best to review all Metal subgenres our press partners send us. Of course, with very few exceptions… I won’t say them because you all know what I’m talking about.
Once upon a time I said Symphonic Metal bands were a kind of an invitation card to the world of Metal music as Hard Rock/Glam Metal bands were in the past. I mean, most fans used get to know Hard Rock/Glam Metal bands first, and then, they would dive into heavier sounds. Ok, not a rule, but it worked a lot in the past. Symphonic Metal bands do the same nowadays for their more accessible sonancy. To some extent, their music do sound a lot as Hard Rock/Glam Metal used to do. Yeah, get a female vocalist with a nice voice add some keyboards and some classical music features and, voilà, the magic is done. Of course, this might a little exagerated but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t mean the truth. Here I have Seven Kingdoms with “The Square” to support my opinion.
Even though is “The Square” an EP with only five songs it delivers a lot of the mix I aforementioned. The album opens up with the tittle track “The Square” which is its the fastest and heaviest song. The song is a good mix of Symphonic Metal with Power Metal. Little by little it goes on acquiring more and more Hard Rock/Glam Metal in order to turn into a very modern Symphonic Metal band with all the features the sungenre delivers the fan. “Through These Waves” starts with a good, strong, and heavy guitar riff and a nice bass drumming. The guitars sound a little more heavier due to the bass that follows the lines giving this impression. The sound of it is great. Then comes the 1980’s Heart inspired “Wilted Pieces” and its tons of sugar. No need to say more. Tons of sugar, but a hell of a track. “The Serpent and the Lotus” is more modern with the electronic effects and the strong guitars and the fast drumming intertwined with lots of melody. An interesting track.
I recommend “The Square” to all those about to Metal. Or for the ones already introduce to the dark arts of Metal music. It doesn’t matter. The album is great.
Seven Kingdoms “The Square” will be released on November 08th via Reigning Phoenix Music.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
