SHARON OSBOURNE: ‘I’m Seriously Thinking About Running For Mayor Of Birmingham’

Sharon Osbourne may be trading red carpets for city hall. The music and TV personality hinted at a potential political move during the 2026 Grammy Awards, raising eyebrows in her hometown of Birmingham.

Speaking with Billboard on the red carpet, Sharon said she is “seriously thinking about running for mayor of Birmingham.” The comment came after co-host Leila Cobo noted how well Sharon spoke at one of Billboard‘s Grammy-related events over the weekend.

The Lord Mayor of Birmingham serves a one-year term, a position currently held by Zafar Iqbal, who was sworn in on May 20, 2025. Iqbal was present during the public funeral procession for Ozzy Osbourne last July.

Given the quick pace of red carpet interviews, the discussion soon shifted to Ozzy’s legacy and how the Osbourne family has been coping since his passing.

Sharon’s political thoughts appear to be partly inspired by recent local developments. According to GB News, she learned that Shahid Butt, a 60-year-old Muslim activist with a terrorism conviction, is seeking a seat on Birmingham City Council in the upcoming May 7 elections. Butt received a five-year prison sentence in Yemen in 1999 for conspiring to attack the British consulate in Aden, along with an Anglican church and a Swiss-owned hotel. He is now running in the Sparkhill ward on a pro-Gaza platform, in an area where nearly two-thirds of residents are of Pakistani heritage.

Reacting to this, Sharon wrote on Instagram: “This has nothing to do with racism. I think I’m gonna move to Birmingham and put my name down for the ballot to be on the council. I’m serious.”
