Al-Namrood – Heen Yadhar Al Ghasq

a0428978663_10  I’m not even going to begin to attempt to try and translate Al-Namrood’s album title as I don’t want to accidentally offend them by doing something wrong, but I do know that the band name itself means “nimrod”. And despite what you might be thinking, this band is not full of nimrods but quite the opposite. Not geniuses, no, but they definitely know how to get a proper black metal sound and feel with their latest album “Heen Yadhar Al Ghasq”. While they’re also described as ambient black metal on their Bandcamp page, don’t let that fool you as in reality this album is 97% straight black metal without much ambiance, but the little that is included is also done really well to people who’ve heard ambient black metal (hello) because it’s implemented in a really good way and it’s not overpowering or lacks any sort of luster whenever it decides to come up. Everything from the ripping guitars to the intense drums in all 7 tracks with there not being one boring moment between them shows that Al-Namrood knows how to do their black metal, and how to do it right because fans of the genre, including myself, can find plenty to enjoy out of this album whose name I don’t understand still.
