Charred Walls of the Damned – Creatures Watching Over the Dead

cwotd_-_creatures_watching_over_the_dead Oh, power metal who I love thee. And oh sweet thrash, how I love thee as well. They’re both marginally different and beloved metal styles that had stood the test of time and most likely will so long as metal continues to thrive. Yet somehow, not many bands think to combine the two and create something that is different yet not to the point where it’s almost unthinkable to pull off in actuality. In come Charred Walls of the Damned who have been doing such a style for years and years without showing any signs of slowing down whatsoever. And their next album of “Creatures Watching Over the Dead” is definitely not the beginning of a halt for these gentlemen. It seems only power metal has the sudden capability of grabbing the listeners attention immediately, and that is shown in massive excess with this record. “Creatures Watching Over the Dead” is an instant joy ride as the opening hook is nigh unforgettable, and then add dozens and dozens of such awesomeness peppered throughout the whole album mixed with such speed and overall intensity that is thrash metal, albeit not as loud and furious as some would prefer. The strings who’s notes make up “Creates Watching Over the Dead” create a fantastic atmosphere, the drums waves excellently pulled off rhythms that really tantalize the senses, and the vocals that are a true roller-coaster of excitement that simply refuses to stop for even a fucking moment. It’s honestly hard for me to convey the magnificence that Charred Walls of the Damned forged with this album, but I’ve a good feeling that anyone who listens to the record themselves will know precisely how I feel. This is an album that simply cannot and will not be ignored by any person who gets even the slightest taste of its glory.
