DAVE PLOTEL ‘Rock Jimi’

Dave began his career as a teen playing guitar with various bands in London clubs & army bases with his twin brother Jon Plotel on bass.  Later they played on the album ‘Marvel World Of Icarus’ which now has a cult following. Sadly they left the band and the infamous guitar solo on Dave’s composition ‘Spiderman’ was attributed to the brilliant John Ethridge who replaced him.

Now the Plotel brothers toured the UK and Europe with Soul artists such as Ben E King, Percy Sledge, Arthur Conley and Eddie Floyd. Dave was headhunted at Ronnie Scotts and joined the pop band The Real Thing, staying with them until they went to No 1 with You To Me Are Everything, including supporting David Essex on tour. At that time Jonathan joined Roger Chapman and Charlie Whitney’s new band Street Walkers one of the top Rock bands of the day, later also join-ing the Real Thing.

After spending a year in Amsterdam, Holland, sorting out his life, Dave returned & worked as a session guitarist and bass player on the many rock gospel music albums being produced at the time. He began to record his own compositions and has a catalogue of ambient music as well as 4 CDs of songs rang-ing from smooth jazz to funk and jazz fusion, taking his “Red Hat” album to Australia and performing live in Ned Kelly territory.

Back home he formed a Jazz Fusion band and played with his own trio in London. His musicality allows him to cross the spectrum of genres, and he shares his ability to write and sing intricate harmonies with other musicians pursuing their own projects. This album ‘Rock Jimi’ marks a return to the influences of his youth –  and a celebration of the Blues, a given for a guitar player of his time, in gratitude for all that it’s given him.
