Echelon – The Brimstone Aggrandizement

The concept of a supergroup is one that the world of metal has become quite familiar with over the last few years as it seems each one announced has a member of Mastodon in it joined with whoever from whatever slightly well-known metal band out there. But what about an underground supergroup? That’s the type of thing that grabs my interest right off the bat, and that’s ultimately what drew me towards Echelon which is made up of members from prestigious groups such as Paganizer, Bolt Thrower, Ribspreader, Akatharta, and several others! That leads to a literal swell of death metal excellence the likes of which is nigh irresistible, and it’s showcased masterfully with Echelon’s debut record that is “The Brimstone Aggrandizement”!

Eight tracks of masterfully crafted death metal forged from the very fires of hell and beyond to truly scathe all who hear it, and leave a mark on all who dare to experience it. It’s simply the kind of thing that’s made up of just the right rhythms, has got just the right topical themes, and has got the fucking perfect levels of intensity that makes for a truly prime death metal experience that few can match. This type of thing typically doesn’t come so early in a band’s time, but given the illustrious background of all of the members of Echelon, it’s very easy to say that “The Brimstone Aggrandizement” is already miles ahead of over half the underground death metal scene of the entire world.

Thousands upon thousands of bands go on about the occult and other such subjects, but only rarely do we get a case as tasty as Echelon. I could easily jam this record out to the very ending of the world, and I’d be loving it the entire time because it’s just that consuming and it puts you into a state of euphoria that only death metal can conjure up. Should you been meaning to find that next underground death metal trip like no other then I can promise you that as one of the very last stops for greatest from 2016, “The Brimstone Aggrandizement” is something that you will find yourself coming back to over and over again. Now that’s a gift that just keeps on giving!
