Former SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison has marked the 21st anniversary of band’s debut album.
SLIPKNOT‘s debut self-titled album was released on June 29, 1999 by Roadrunner Records. The album spans several genres, but is generally noted for its extensive percussion and overall heavy sound. It was well received by fans and critics alike and was responsible for bringing Slipknot a large increase in popularity. The album peaked at number 51 on the Billboard 200, and has gone on to become certified double platinum in the United States, making it the band’s best-selling album. In 2011, it was voted the best debut album of the last 25 years by readers of Metal Hammer magazine.
“It’s almost hard to believe how these years have flown by like blast beats. That album was and will always be some of the absolute best memories of my life,” Jordison wrote. There’s nothing out there quite like it, and what it did for all of us and the metal world. It made all of our dreams come true, and the overall reaction from the fans almost collapsed venues and stadiums worldwide.
“We didn’t expect it, but it absolutely exploded! We were so determined, hungry, and ready to take on the world and we did,” he continued. “We feared no one, and it showed when we took the stage.

On December 12, 2013, SLIPKNOT announced through their official website that Jordison had left the band, citing personal reasons for his departure. In response, Jordison released a statement insisting that he had in fact been fired from the band and stated that SLIPKNOT “has been my life for the last 18 years, and I would never abandon it, or my fans.”
