In an official statement posted to the band’s website today, MEGADETH has named Kiko Loureiro as their new guitarist. This has been rumored for weeks and there are reports of fans chanting “MEGADETH” while Loureiro was on stage playing at a recent show.
In the statement Mustaine added “I first met Kiko around 8 years ago for a cover shoot for Burrn! magazine. I had no idea who he was, other than the fact he was tremendously talented and that the staff from Burrn! held him in high regard. Since then I’ve come to see what a guitar virtuoso he is, and I’m deeply encouraged by his depth and talent. Very few Megadeth alumni have had the same feel and ability as Kiko. As Frank Sinatra says, ‘The best is yet to come!’”
This comes Just after confirmation, over the weekend, of LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler being named as ‘guest’ drummer for the new album. While we know that Loureiro will be seen and heard when the band resumes touring, it is not clear as to whether or not he will be a part of the recording process for the new album as Mustaine hinted at the band recording the album three-piece.
Loureiro is best known for his work in the band ANGRA.
