Mad Max - Stormchild Rising

Two years ago I wrote a review on “35” the album that commemorated the 35th anniversary of Mad Max. As I said before, Mad Max are a resilient band that keep their faith on their music. Thirty-seven years later, the band still makes the same music they used to do back then and with flying colors. However, in no way it means that “Stormchild Rising” is more of the same. I’d rather say it’s one more chapter of the story the band is writing. From where I’m sitting, I believe there is no higher prrof that Metal will live forever than the bands that insist on keeping the Metal flame high no matter what.

For the better or for the worst, Mad Max wrote an album that follows their most sacred rule that is to maintain their personality. It’s not that different from “35” and I suppose it’s not that different from the previous – I say suppose because I don’t follow the band. Remember? Tons of bands, impossible to follow them all. As I said before, from where I’m sitting, it’s a pro, not a con. It’s the kind of album that won’t chance the world, but it guarantees some pretty good minutes of fun.

Okay, then, now about “Stormchild Rising” itself. The first thing that jumps the eye of the Hard’n’Heavy fan is the link between Mad Max and American bands as Dokken and Rough Cutt. Their sonancy is absolutely inspired on those bands. By the way, I’ll cut the chase and tell the fan that “Take Her” is a Rough Cutt cover so the fan won’t keep have a hammering in the ideas wondering where does he remember the amazing main guitar riff as I did. If were to pick up only one song I would choose “Ladies and Gentlemen” just because I like the chorus. Well, it may be useless, but I feel that I have to warn Extreme metal fan that this album will be extremely painful. So, please, don’t get even near. For Hard’n’Heavy fans only. The taste of party all night long is to corrosive if you don’t like it.
