Mammoth Mammoth – Mammoth Bloody Mammoth

647_MammothMammoth_RGB[1]  Holy mammoth, Batman! I’ve seen the fine gentlemen known as Mammoth Mammoth before especially with the album that they put out last year, but I could never quite get into them even though I like stoner rock, but Mammoth Mammoth never really did it for me for some reason. I suppose I just wasn’t eased into their style with the right songs, but after hearing the upcoming EP “Mammoth Bloody Mammoth” I can honestly say I see this stoner band in a totally new light as this record kicks ass in the first thirty seconds alone. After those precious moments, this four track album shows that even after serving up a completely fulfilled and fleshed out record Mammoth Mammoth have still got plenty of surprises for us. Those surprises this time come in the form of two new original songs, a cover of MC5’s “Kick Out the Jams”, and a remastered version of an old song from these guys, “Dead Sea”. All of them are catchy beyond reckoning, have a great flow and sound between all of them to the point where you can feel the difference in styles that they have and come to love them, and have some of the most well done everything that I’ve heard from a stoner rock band for quite a while and by a while I meant the last few years. “Mammoth Bloody Mammoth” is just simply captivating as the smooth vocals mix perfectly with the riff filled guitars, groovy bass, and drums that have beat the likes of which will not quit to even take a moment’s rest. We all know of the phrase “less is more” and I will tell you right now that quote does not even begin to describe how awesome this EP is. This is my gateway drug for Mammoth Mammoth and I’m sure it will be for many of you out there who have been meaning to listen to them, and now if you’ll excuse me I need to go and satisfy my fix for more Mammoth Mammoth.

“Mammoth Bloody Mammoth” comes out on February 19th.
