Mythra – Still Burning

Mythra are for sure one of the pioneers of NWOBHM. Being founded in 1978, Mythra led the scene for sometime head to head to bands like Iron Maiden, Jaguar, Raven, Satan, and others. In 1979, they released the cult “Death And Destiny” EP, which sold about 20,000 copies, but life loves some tragedy and Mythra vanished from the scene to reappear almost 40 years later with this gem “Still Burning”.

“Still Burning” feeling is like time has stoped. We’re still in between 1970 and 1980. That’s why “Still Burning” sounds so fresh. Mythra’s guys were able to record an album that doesn’t emulate that period of time because “Still Burning” belongs to that period of time. That’s it! “Still Burning” is an effort that could have been recorded in the beginning of the 1980s. For the best and for the worst. The best is that “Still Burning” brings us marvelous pieces of Metal that would be forget. Moreover, “Still Burning” refreshes our memory and explain why some bands like Chariot sounded the way they did. Blame Mythra. The worst is that some fashion people will say that they are dinosaurs, outdated, and bla-bla-bla. But we just don’t care.

Tracks like “We Belong” are pure poetry. Instrumental parts take us to a trip of melodius sounds and cozy rememberances. Others like the tittle track, “Still Burning”, light the fire of Metal early days. Mythra teaches us a class of real NWOBHM. Listen to the riff of “Fundamental Extreme” and you’ll know learn how to riff a song.

Mythra’s “Still Burning” is mandatory to all who love Metal music whatever it is, or whatever this means. Behold the masters!
