The intro to Slaughter Messiah “Cursed to the Pyre” deceives the fan at first. “From the Tomb into the Void” begins as an apotheosis or the welcoming party to hell or what. The mood in it sounds a bit like those, I’m afraid. But then, suddenly, everything changes, the track gets so violent and thirsty for blood that the fan might smile for a while. “Cursed to the Pyre” is a tribute to the best Metal music from the 1980s. It’s fast, violent, ferocious, straightforward attitude and dark and somber music. The kind of blackened Death/Thrash Metal done back then with all the pros and no cons.
I must say I do like this kind of effort. Fast guitar riffing with pounding drums and an acid vocal. It can’t get better. About the vocals. L. Sabathan voice do remind a bit Metal Church’s David Wayne tone. From where I’m standing his voice embellishes – embellishes? – the album. It couldn’t be better, a perfect fit. In a twisted and insane way, “Cursed to the Pyre” is an album that Metal Church could eventually have recorded with a spicy punk hardcore flavor giving it an even more insane mood. As we’re talking about Metal Church, last, but not least track “Fog of the Malevolent Sore” reminds a lot the band. I mean, of course, it’s not the same. “Fog of the Malevolent Sore” is faster and moodier, but the feeling, yeah, the feeling it feels the same… The feeling it feels the same? Ah, come on, you know what I’m saying.
What did I like most in Slaughter Messiah “Cursed to the Pyre”? Well, if I had to answer this I’d say that I loved the sharp and precise guitar interventions. Moreover, the rapid and killer guitar riffs are also a highlight. Rod Iron Bitch Desecrator and T. Exhumator are a great duo. By the way, their monikers also fit perfectly. Therefore, the perfect album if the fan likes the likes.
