2024 is gone and we’ve got another year coming. It’s unbelievable how time has flown so fast. Just the other day it was the beginning of the new century, now it’s been more than 20 years. Just crazy that, huh?
A little bit more of nostalgia. It was like yesterday in 2016 that I started writing for Metal Addicts and after more than 2,000 reviews and some News I’m still here. Wow! For sure some kind of world record.
Well, just breaking the ice after a year when I didn’t write as much as I should, could, would.
There is no better way to jumpstart a year with a state of the art band as Slaughtersun and their forthcoming EP “Black Marrow,” which brings together the songs that introduced the band’s fierce identity over 2023 and 2024.
The EP commences as most Metal albums do with the intro “Unearthly Propaganda” full of effects and all. The usual, we all know. Well, no one could be blame to make use of a very good idea. The surprises come with “Fall of the Firmament” where vocalist Justin Hillman is responsable for, as the band itself calls, the unearthly wails. To some extent, there is a little bit of truth in it as the dude goes for all the album doing all kinds of roars and howls. It’s the amazing truth the dude goes far beyond the usual with his vocals. As a fun fact, Slaughtersun define their members as Ben Karas, responsible for the treble strings, Cody McCorry, responsible for the bass strings and Jason Quinones responsible for the hammer battalion. Cool as hell, isn’t it?
“Black Marrow” can be told as innovative as it mixes Technical Death Metal with other verves of Death Metal as Melodic and, at times, Raw. The album has some moments of pristine playing and songwriting. Tracks as “Ready Cell Awaits” bounces pretty well the band’s brew with some more modern instrumental elements. But the real surprise comes with album’s tittle “Black Marrow” and its Technical Death Metal approach with more aggressive vocals. The guitars sound as they are pounding harder and harder the vocalist’s head. My dear child of the night will notice there is a more ethereal sound that comes from the guitars’ licks now and then. The track also brings some Thrash Metal slants in its guitars as the main riff repeats itself as the aforementioned hammering. It’s an EP of impeccable instrumentals as many Technical Death Metal bands are.
“Black Marrow” is a good album for starters. It’s nice after sometime to be back listening to such an amazing and top notch album from a band that stands for so much in the coming future. Slaughtersun are a band with identity. It’s also true that they deserved a better reviewer who could explain with detailed words all the album.
Slaughtersun “Black Marrow” was released on January 10th.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
