SOMNURI Release Music Video For New Single ‘Tooth & Nail’

Brooklyn progressive sludge juggernauts SOMNURI have released a blistering new video from their upcoming sophomore album Nefarious Wave on Blues Funeral Recordings. Unleash the whiplash-inducing power of “Tooth and Nail” right now! Make sure to check out the music video for the new single below.

Produced by the band and directed by drummer Phil SanGiacomo, the frantic and almost claustrophobic feel of the new video perfectly matches the energy of the song. Bursting with pure radioactive anger, double-time drumming and bludgeoning riffs, the hardcore punk side of SOMNURI shines through new single “Tooth And Nail“.

Guitarist and vocalist Justin Sherrell gives more insight about the song:
“‘Tooth & Nail has always felt like an exorcising of the demons, it’s volatile and quick to the point. Lyrically, I was talking about my struggle maintaining healthy relationships, both personal friendships that felt impossible to continue and an intimate relationship that was falling apart at the time. It wasn’t so much a song about heartbreak or loss but more about clawing and hanging on to something potentially detrimental to both parties. It ultimately mirrors my own personal bout with addiction, emphasized by the hook, “till death do we part”. It’s definitely one of the more personal songs on Nefarious Wave, but I feel it has a universal theme that a lot of people can relate to and hopefully reach some catharsis of their own.

Coming from the streets of Brooklyn, NYC, SOMNURI weave together breakneck energy, infectious melodies, bludgeoning riffs and pounding grooves that share DNA with High on Fire, Mastodon and Torche. Elements of the city surface throughout their sound: brutality and spaciousness, stark dissonance, and delicate hush. Embodying their refusal to concede or compromise, their sophomore album Nefarious Wave is a reflection of their undeniable ethic, a devastating musical worldview ready for those willing to inhabit it with them. Nefarious Wave will released worldwide on June 4th through Blues Funeral Recordings

A sprawling record full of time and tempo shifts, their sophomore album ‘Nefarious Wave’ is a story of survival and resilience. As naysayers flee the city, claiming the scene is dead and will never be what it used to, SOMNURI is alive, breathing, adapting and mutating into something greater, and continues to push the possibilities of heavy music and the ideals of how a DIY band fights for their place. It was mixed by Phil SanGiacomo, and mastered by Justin Mantooth at Westend Recording Studios KC. The artwork was designed by Dani Otrajki.
