SOULFLY Releases Animated Video For ‘Favela/Dystopia’

Soulfly 2026

Arizona extreme metal pioneers SOULFLY unleash the groove-heavy onslaught of “Favela/Dystopia.” The song comes from their latest album Chama and features Zyon Cavalera on drums, adding a modern intensity to the band’s signature tribal-infused sound.

For this visual journey, the band enlisted Matt Creeptoon to bring the track to life through immersive animation. The video offers an unvarnished, unflinching portrayal of life in the Brazilian favelas and perfectly captures the grim reality behind “Favela/Dystopia.”

Max Cavalera explains: “Nightmare Before Christmas meets City of God! This video shows the battles of Brazilians living in the favelas, underscored by the thrash metal side of SOULFLY‘s Chama. Great animation by Matt Creeptoon!”

The onslaught continues! SOULFLY are entering the final stretch of their US tour, supporting the mighty GWAR on “The Gor-Gor Strikes Back Tour” together with KING PARROT.

Chama was recorded at Platinum Underground Studio in Mesa, Arizona, by John Aquilino. John has worked with Max and company on several occasions and is not only a talented sound engineer but also a friend of the family. The album was produced by Zyon Cavalera and Arthur Rizk, who was also responsible for mixing and mastering. Rizk has not only collaborated extensively with the Cavalera family but has also helped shape the world of heavy metal today. SOULFLY commissioned Carletta Parrish for the album artwork. Igor Amadeus Cavalera (GO AHEAD AND DIE, NAILBOMB, HEALING MAGIC) played bass on the album, and Mike De Leon played guitar. The album also features guest appearances from Dino Cazares (FEAR FACTORY) and Todd Jones (NAILS).
