Ah, Speed Metal! The Simone Simons of all Metal subgenres of my eyes! Always when I think of some Metal melody in my mind I think of it as Speed Metal. Of course, it follows some furious headbanging.
In general, Speed Metal is more the bloodthrist, the unthinkable will to be fast and furious, the powerhouse of violence in Metal terms. It’s not an intricate and complex music most of the time. Don’t get me wrong this is exactly the way we love Speed Metal. When it gets more complex it turns into Power Metal, if you know what I mean. However, today’s review subject Speedrush with “Division Mortality” managed a way to subvert this order. A big hail to that.
“Division Mortality” is an album full of surprises for all speed metallers as I am. Surprises that commence with the instrumental tittle track and intro “Division Mortality” which alone is a kind of surprise because it’s not that common to bands to start albums with instrumentals. The initial speech gives it the perfect 1980’s atmosphere even though what comes next is very far from the usual 1980’s Speed Metal. “Division Mortality” commences with an astonishing cadenced guitar that showcases everything Speedrush got. It pretty much sums up the album. It’s fast, it’s furious, it’s surprising from start to finish. The guitar phrases built here gives the track an insane mood that catches the fan. Following track “Ride With Death” starts pretty much standard Speed Metal with an intial guitar riffing that immeadiately recalls Iron Maiden “Powerslave” era. To some extent, Iron Maiden are one of the forefathers of Speed Metal. Truth is Speedrush sweat energy from all pores in all tracks without worrying about the speed limit which for sure was broken with the blasting “Feeding the Carnivores.” As a tradition of Speed Metal bass lines are well-pronounced here which reminds me a lot of Viper’s “Soldiers of Sunrise” era. Besides learning from the masters the band goes beyond them. That’s for sure.
“Division Mortality” isn’t an album for the faint of heart and for the ones who love things the way they always were. It’s for the ones who love little, but strong surprises.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
