Thrash Eaters recently conducted an interview with vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza of San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal veterans EXODUS. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

Asked about how things have been in the EXODUS camp since he rejoined the band last year, Zetro said: “My attitude is great. I’m enjoying meeting all the fans, seeing them again. A lot of them [come up to me and say], ‘Oh my God! I’m glad you’re back. It’s great to see you.'”

He continued: “I came back to the family. I got to spend the holidays with them, and it’s f**king fun as s**t. So, you know what I mean?! I’m not gonna do anything to f**k this thing up. No way! I’m really, really digging the time I have. And I figure, you know, I’m 50 now. I was 22 when I joined EXODUS in the beginning. I’ve got to keep this going, and the way to [do that] is to keep in shape, you know what I mean?! And that’s our focus now. It’s, like, everything backstage is all healthy. Nobody does drugs anymore; that’s over and gone. There’s a little bit of alcohol, but not like, ‘Let’s pound 12 cases of beer. What do you mean we drank that already?’ That’s nonexistent.”

Zetro added: “I think everybody is really worried about… when we go out on stage, how we’re gonna destroy and kick ass. And that’s how I’m looking at it. I eat healthy, Gary [Holt, guitar] eats [healthy]… we all do. We all know our performance is very important, and we know we can’t do that because of our performance. Now it’s a totally different mentality. But [when] you’re 22, you don’t know any better. You’re, like, ‘Turn it on now. Full throttle, motherf**ker.’ You know what I mean?! Basically, that was the lifestyle.”

EXODUS‘s latest album, “Blood In Blood Out”, sold around 8,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 38 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released in North America on October 14, 2014 via Nuclear Blast, the CD art was illustrated by Swedish artist Pär Olofsson, known worldwide for his incredible renderings that have graced the covers of countless heavy metal albums, including EXODUS“Let There Be Blood”.

“Blood In Blood Out” is EXODUS‘ first album since the departure of Dukes, and the return of his predecessor, Steve “Zetro” Souza, who previously fronted EXODUS from 1986 to 1993 and from 2002 to 2004.

Dukes joined EXODUS in January 2005 and appeared on four of the band’s studio albums — “Shovel Headed Kill Machine” (2005), “The Atrocity Exhibition… Exhibit A” (2007), “Let There Be Blood” (2008, a re-recording of EXODUS‘ classic 1985 LP, “Bonded By Blood”) and “Exhibit B: The Human Condition” (2010).
