Brooklyn-based alternative rock band THE AMATORY MURDER released their electrifying new single “Velvet Noose” (Radio Edit),” now available on all streaming platforms.

Blending funky 70s grooves with a gritty alt-rock edge, “Velvet Noose” is as infectious as it is unsettling—spotlighting the enduring influence of Stanley Milgram’s infamous obedience experiment. “The idea that ordinary people can be convinced to do unthinkable things just because an authority figure tells them to—it’s horrifying,” says frontman Xian Murder. “With everything going on in the world, revisiting Milgram’s work felt more relevant than ever. And this time, we wrapped it in a sound that you can move to. “

Pulling inspiration from Obedience to Authority: An Experimental View, the track contrasts its heavy lyrical message with a swaggering rhythm section, vibrant synths, and a blistering guitar solo that leaves a mark. It’s the first single from the band’s upcoming album, The Sounds of Seven Angels, out June 23, 2025.“It’s a track you can bang your head to while dancing your heart out,” says bassist Binx Noir. “It’s a marriage of my love for funk and rock,” adds drummer Scott Genovese. “That solo was so fun to rip,” notes guitarist Jake Haimowitz.

“Velvet Noose” sets the tone for what’s to come on The Sounds of Seven Angels—an emotionally charged and musically expansive record blending classic rock influence with cinematic alt-rock. With nods to MUSE, PINK FLOYD, THE CULT, and NINE INCH NAILS, the album explores themes of culture, fear, defiance, and self-awareness.
