The Dead Daisies – Light’em Up Review

I always thought The Dead Daisies were a project with fix musicians or, at least, one or two guests per album. Well, it happens that I was flat wrong about the fix musicians part. In fact, some may refer to it as a supergroup as names as David Lowy, Doug Aldrich, John Corabi, Michael Devin, Tommy Clufetos, Glenn Hughes, Marco Mendoza, Richard Fortus, Dizzy Reed, Frank Ferrer, Darryl Jones, Charley Drayton, Deen Castronovo and Jon Stevens amongst others have joined their ranks. From all of them, only David Lowy remains in the group. For this new album called “Light’em Up” the band brings John Corabi on vocals, Doug Aldrich and David Lowy on guitars, Michael Devin on bass and Tommy Clufetos on the drums.

“Light’em Up” is really a true name for the music my dear child of the night will find in here. This album is  the essence of the term incendiary with flamming music that comes from this true powerhouse that lights up anyone who’s into Rock, Hard Rock, and Metal. There is only one ballad called “Love That’ll Never Be” which has a strong taste of Aerosmith with some features of Uriah Heep. But not sweet as hell. On the contrary. Grand finale “Take My Soul” commences slow as the great Blues driven tune it is. By the way, it’s useless to say the album has plenty of Blues and early Rock’n’roll influences. From all three albums I had the pleasure to review here I bet this one is the most energetic and adrenalied of all.

The album commences with the flamming album tittle “Light’em Up” whose energy surprises even the most used to it fan. To its captivating main guitar riff some very prominent bass lines are added. The simple, but effective drumming completes the team. The chorus has some Def Lepard energy in it even though it’s not one of the bands that has cleared been the inspiration to The Dead Daisies. Here the stronger taste is of AC/DC with no shadow of doubt – let “I Wanna Be Your Bitch” or “I’m Gonna Ride” tell this tale. Following track “Times Are Changing” is one of those songs that my dear child of the night will singalong with all the powers of their lungs. The energy of the song is really something very difficult to overcome. The spirit of 1970’s Hard rock is evidently alive here. From head to toe “Light’em Up” is an album to singalong and headbang as if there is no future. Hmm, is there?
