Mike Hitchen, the guitarist of U.K.’s death/doom band THE DROWNING, has tragically passed away in a devastating house fire.
Band said in a statement earlier today: At 12.35 yesterday our founder, brother and friend Mike Hitchen passed away after a house fire late Tuesday night.
“We are all lost without him and are currently trying to come to terms with this new reality. Whilst we may not want to accept this, we know how much he meant to everyone, and it is our unfortunate duty to have to announce his departure from us.
“There will be posts to follow concerning the band and future music, as the culmination of his life in metal is recorded and we will be honouring his legacy by spreading his music far and wide.
“We know this will come as a shock, so please take some time, put on THE DROWNING and raise a glass to Mike, one of the best, most genuine, generous, funny and talented riff machines that will ever walk the earth.
“We love you Mike and we’ll see you again.”
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mike‘s friends, family, and bandmates during this incredibly difficult time.
