A new collaborative single titled “ADJOURN IT” has officially arrived online, bringing together Tom Morello, Serj Tankian, and Morello’s son Roman Morello for a politically charged musical statement.
The track continues a long-running creative and activist partnership between Morello and Tankian, who first connected two decades ago through their shared commitment to social justice. In 2002, the pair co-founded the Axis Of Justice initiative, aiming to promote equality and push back against racism within rock and metal communities.
“ADJOURN IT” arrives as another entry in their history of protest-driven collaborations, with Morello outlining the inspiration behind the song in strong terms: “Persecution of immigrants across the land and the counterforce of a heroic resistance to the rising tide of fascism. ‘ADJOURN IT’ is a ‘Freedom Song’ of crushing riffs for justice and equality.”
The newly released music video further expands on the track’s themes through archival imagery and historical context. It incorporates footage from the 1954 film Salt of the Earth, tying the song’s message to earlier real-world struggles for labor rights and equality: ‘Clips from the film Salt of the Earth (1954) are woven throughout the “ADJOURN IT” video to reflect the song’s theme of resistance in the face of prejudice and injustice. The film is based on a true story of Mexican-American miners fighting against labor exploitation, racism, and institutional oppression, and was made by three Hollywood executives blacklisted for their political beliefs.
“It stars real zinc miners and was one of the first ever truly independent films. Salt of the Earth was a powerful act of defiance in its time and more than half a century later, its themes continue to echo through today’s political climate. ‘ADJOURN IT‘ channels the defiant legacy of the film reinforcing the importance of solidarity in bringing people together against fear and division.”
Alongside the single’s release, all three musicians are also set to appear at Morello’s upcoming “Power To The People” festival, scheduled for October 03rd at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. The event will feature performances from major acts including Bruce Springsteen, FOO FIGHTERS, and Dave Matthews among others.
While positioned as a non-partisan gathering centered on music and activism, the festival’s lineup and timing have drawn attention due to its inclusion of artists known for outspoken political views, effectively framing it as a broader cultural response to current sociopolitical tensions in the United States.
