The instigating instrumental intro of “Sil” made me think this would be an instrumental album and let me with that taste of wanting some more. It was the instant highlight to the bass with such amazing lines that fill all the voids in the music that attracted me to the music. Vocals, with their 1980s alternative Rock intent, though, are not so instigating as the other features, yet, the full package is so satisfying.
Well, “Litera” is a the kind of Progressive Rock band that puts to cook in the cauldron many influences of many sources as possible. So, each track is a distant trip to the unknown because the fan does not really know what will came. If “Sil” had some 1980s alternative Rock features on vocals, “Iskra“ sounds a wee bit more modern with the melodic constaruction of the instrumentals. Here the bass and the drums are a surprise. Guitars are a wee bit linear, but strong as hell, if you know what I mean with some Punk Rock grip. Everything changes again with “Leleka” with some Marillion dashes and a more melodic grip. To my understanding, VØVK‘s view of Progressive Rock is the blend of many influences as possible creating some kind of musical chaos with the strong guitars that give the band its musical signature. “Leleka“ is one of the tracks that delivers this view to the fan. The fan will strange a little the Ucranian language, but it is just a wee bit. “Tyhr,” on the other hand, has a lot of Nirvana in it.
Sometimes it is great to fool around other bands than Metal. I cannot explain why for sure, but it is kind of refreshing to see what is done out there the Metal music world. On the other hand, it is great to see Metal music references in other genres, and vice-versa. The musical chaos VØVK has built here sounds very Metal. It is also true that some of the features might appear in the forward albums.
Well, from where I am standing, “Litera“ is some kind of strange album with some strange sonancies. The point is that it sounds like a lot of things, but at the same time, it sounds as nothing like. Paradoxal, huh? But, yet, the truth.
VØVK “Litera” was released on October 03rd via kontrabass.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
