Waste a Saint – …And It’s Evergreen Review

It is true we have been receiving lots of bands that captured the sonancies of the 1960s and 1970s from Heavy Rock and Psychedelic Rock which are generally put under the umbrella of Stoner Rock or Stoner Metal. Well, I beg to differ, as usual. Today’s review’s subject Waste A Saint with “…And It’s Evergreen” captured perfectly the sonancies from the epoch I aforementioned. They are heavy, they are mysterious, they have some psychedelic moments as many bands had and, of course, they are sometimes shoegazed as the purely Black Sabbath inspired “The Villain Of The Piece” shows the fan with its typical strong downtuned overdriven guitars.

Ok, then, the thing is that Bogey Stefansdottir’s voice leaves the influences open by sounding very modern. The lyrical content does that as well as the themes Waste A Saint chose are very updated as “Attention, Deficit… Something” tells the fan. On the other hand, there are tracks as “Strike, Parry, Riposte” that keep that 1960s spirit of experimentalism using uncanny sonancies and elements. In other words, the tracks here in “…And It’s Evergreen” are very varied giving the fan an ample view of what the music of the past can still deliver to the present, and to the future.

It amazes me the fact that in 2026 there are still people doing the music from the golden era of Rock music. It also amazes how natural they sound even though there are sometimes some modern references as “Sclera” has from alternative Rock and some taste of Joan Jett. Or the 1990s alternative dancing guitars of “Blindfold Marigold” that contrast with the 1960s heavy tone of the rhthym guitars. On the other hand, Northbound is very Jefferson Airplane. Porcelain, for instance, has some taste of Blondie The Hunter” era.

I almost forgot, Waste a Saint, what a band name!
