Thrash metal legends SLAYER have returned to the stage for the first time since announcing their retirement. The band, whose last show was in 2019, headlined the final day of Riot Fest in Chicago on September 22.
SLAYER opened their 20-song set with the classic “South of Heaven” and played a career-spanning setlist that included songs from their debut album Show No Mercy to their final album Repentless.
SLAYER is set to perform at Louder Than Life on September 27th and Aftershock Festival in Sacramento on October 10th. No further dates have been announced at this moment.
In a recent interview with Metal Injection, SLAYER guitarist Kerry King said that he doesn’t rule out the possibility of more SLAYER shows in the future beyond the three festival appearances scheduled for this summer and fall.
“I’m trying to be real and definitely say, hey, we’re not gonna tour again,” he said. “And we’re certainly not gonna record again, ’cause I have a means of doing that now with my band. [We’re doing] three shows for now. And I say ‘for now’ because I know Europe’s gonna come knocking, ‘Hey, man, you guys played America. Come see us.’ So it wouldn’t surprise me if something like that happened, but it’s certainly not on my books right now.”
Setlist for the show was as follows:
- South of Heaven
- Reborn
- Blood Red
- Postmortem
- Repentless
- Payback
- Temptation
- Jihad
- Seasons In The Abyss
- Born Of Fire
- War Ensemble
- Hate Worldwide
- Disciple
- Dead Skin Mask
- Hell Awaits
- 213
- Mandatory Suicide
- Raining Blood
