Wombbath – The Great Desolation

One, two, three, go…

And there comes a straight-ahead-in-your-face death metal band. “The Great Desolation” opens up with “Embrace Death” a shot in the face song. Fast, fierceful, ferociuos piece of raw death metal. Nah, but hold your horses. Is that all Wombbath have to offer? Not a clue. Wombbath cope wonderfully with the mix of speed-of-light songs with slowing a little building up new textures. By the way, Wombbath created great sonic textures in their songs. Sometimes you forget they are supposed to be a raw death metal band so near they get to a technical one. Wombbath do that as an art. Dark arts, if I may.

“The Great Desolation” is an album which deserves to be listened very closely due to its finesse included. Yeah, you got it right, Wombbath do have their finesse. That’s what call the eye to them. A song like “Embrace Death” in the same album as “Hail the obscene.” I mean, they are very different. “Hail the obscene” has many plot twists. It changes a lot in its six minutes. Pay close attention to the guitar finesses in “Harvester of Sin,” “Footsteps of Armageddon,” “Cold Steel Salvation,” and “Punisher of Broken Oaths” to get everything. It’s really worth it. Pay close attention to the almost punk guitar in “Embrace Death” as well. Håkan Stuvemark and Al Riglin do a nice job there. They worked hard to build this unimaginable layer of sounds.

Do not let yourself go by first track. “The Great Desolation” is an album which deserves to be listened track by track. With lots of care. So let Wombbath surprise you and show how talented and resourceful they are. I bet you’ll like it as I did.

Wombbath “The Great Desolation” will blast into the sun on June 01st via Soulseller Records.
