Wretched – Decay Review

As I keep on saying Metal music amuses me every release, this time could not be any different with Wretched and “Decay.” No, I would never tell this album would be instrumental with absolute no traces of Extreme Metal in it, more notably Death Metal. Well, that would be true if my dear child of the night started listening to the long “Behind the Glass” first as I did just for the fun. By this track it is a totally different album we are talking about. First of all, it is instrumental as I aforementioned. Second of all, there are some nuances of the genius Enio Morricone’s and his soundtracks to the famous 1960s western spaguetti movies which totally insane influence \even for a Death Metal band. As a matter of fact, this track breaks all the mood the band created.

The album commences with its tittle track Decay,” which, I should say, has some kind of different mood being slow and intense with lots of strummings with a twisted vocal. No, by no means, Wretched are a regular band. It is interesting how the band works with the crescent tension the track involves. A tension that is resolved only with the guitar leads – yes, there are two. I have to say that the track is almost Doom. I said almost. “Malus Incarnate” takes the same doomy road being a little more cadenced with strong guitars and harsher vocals. By the way, it is interesting how the band kids with the speed. Sometimes it seems the band has a prone to be slow because “The Royal Body” takes the same low speed road.

Decay” stands out of the crowd not only for being different and using some unorthodox sonancies for Death Metal. It is also surpring for the use of the speed and for combining some Doom Metal features into their music while keeping all the aggression needed for a Metal music album.

WretchedDecay” was released on October 17th via Metal Blade Records.
