Zakk Sabbath – Vertigo

First of all, I won’t be stupid to compare Zakk Sabbath “Vertigo” with any, for the record, any Black Sabbath’s efforts or his abilities as a guitarist to Tony Iommy’s. It would be unfair and, honestly, as I said stupid. They play very different leagues the way I see. I’ll take another track maybe more dangerous or harmless, I really don’t know, you Metal Addicts’ fan will tell me.

There it goes. Facing that there zillion of Black Sabbath’s covers including Ozzy’s “Speak of the Devil” that it’s not really a cover album, but you know what I’m saying, the burning question is: why one more?

I’ll try to tell you why.

First of all, “Vertigo” covers an especific Black Sabbath’s album which is the fenomenal, groundbreaking, earthshaking, marvelous, incredible, and other adjectives album of all times. For some, not me included, it is the first Metal album of all. An album that changed utterly the history of music liking it or not. That’s really something, if you ask me. It’s the album that should be mandatory to any Metal band in this sad and lonely and pathetic little world and not only to Doom Metal bands. The album that I still listen regularly even though I’ve been doing that for a zillion years and I miss it when I don’t listen regularly. Really…

Second, Zakk Wylde chose songs that aren’t regulaly covered as “The Wizzard,” which I have to confess it one of Sabbath’s songs that I like the most with it blues and jazz mix done by the sound of the harmonica, and “A Bit of Finger Sleeping Village Warning” with its moody and heavy cadence. By the way, Zakk added some minutes to the song. From where I’m standing only those tracks pay off. Let’s agree that Zakk is very talented and what he did here is remarkable just because.

Third, did you know that Zakk can actually sing? Yeah, right. He can and his tone is very similar to Ozzy’s. Well, no surprise as he’s been with the man for a really good time. There are moments that the resemblance is fantastic and the fan might think it is the man himself as I did in the beginning…

Ah, there goes the forth and last. Zakk recorded it to celebrate the album’s 50th anniversary. Thoughtfull, isn’t it?

Ok, that’s enough, isn’t it? If haven’t convinced you that this album is at least interesting I cant do any more good.

Zakk Sabbath “Vertigo” will be released on September 04th via Magnetic Eye Records.
