The members of METALLICA are honoring a fan who passed away at one of their concerts in Canada last week.
In a heartfelt social media post on Wednesday, the legendary metal band acknowledged the passing of a man named Lorne, also known by his nickname “Viking,” at their August 23rd performance at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.
METALLICA wrote in their post: “Friday night, August 23rd, in Edmonton, we lost a METALLICA family member at the show. He died due to health conditions. Leaving the earthly body and onto the next adventure. Very sad when death happens, but we’re touched that he spent some of his final, hopefully joyful, time with us.”
“Our condolences to the family and friends of Lorne ‘Viking.’ With Love and Respect, METALLICA.”
A friend of Lorne’s provided more details about the tragic incident in a METALLICA fan group on Facebook, explaining how he was carried out from the Snake Pit area on a stretcher and received emergency medical attention.
METALLICA is currently on their M72 World Tour, promoting their 2023 album 72 Seasons. The band’s upcoming shows are scheduled for August 28 and September 1 in Seattle, Washington.
