HEAVEN SHALL BURN were forced to abruptly end their performance at Rock am Ring this past weekend after frontman Marcus Bischoff sustained a sudden neck injury on stage. The band had only just launched into their set when the incident occurred, prompting an immediate cancellation and a rush to get Bischoff medical attention.
Shortly after the band left the stage, HEAVEN SHALL BURN issued a heartfelt statement to fans who had gathered in droves at the Nürburgring festival grounds:
“We still have no idea what just happened and we really want to tell you honestly what we know so far and what the current situation looks like. We had to cancel our performance at Rock am Ring after only one song because our singer Marcus sustained a neck injury. He’s on his way to the hospital in these minutes to have things cleared up. It tears us apart and above all it really hits his heart to leave you there after the big rain and the clearing evening sky. It was all set for a mega explosion of energy.”
The band emphasized that everything leading up to the show had gone smoothly, with Bischoff showing no signs of illness or injury during soundcheck or warm-up. They described the sudden turn of events as unprecedented in their career and expressed deep gratitude for the understanding and support shown by fans on site:
“We have never experienced anything like this and are devastated. But we are also absolutely blown away by your support, your understanding and your solidarity… We cry with sadness, but also with now bitterly experienced happiness to have such fans and supporters.”
The following day, Bischoff himself shared an update, revealing that the root of the issue was an undetected infection:
“As promised, I want to give an update on the situation. I was in the hospital last night and had a specialist examine me. Apparently, I’ve picked up an unnoticed infection. Unfortunately, this means we have to cancel our show today at the Metalfest in Pilsen and also the upcoming show with In Flames in Ljubljana next Tuesday.”
Though the cancellations were deeply disappointing for both the band and fans, Bischoff remained optimistic and determined:
“This honestly hurts our hearts, and we will definitely be back as soon as possible! Yet, giving up is not an option! I hope I will be back with positive news very soon!”
HEAVEN SHALL BURN are set to release a new album, Heimat, on June 27th via Century Media.
At this time, HEAVEN SHALL BURN have not announced a timeline for Bischoff’s return or any rescheduled dates. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned to the band’s official channels for further updates.
