In a recent interview with Matt Zaniboni of Metal Express RadioJUDAS PRIEST bassist Ian Hill was asked about the secret to the band’s lasting success.

“I think going back to those early days, it’s the things that we went through to get where we are,” Ian said. “And I think it makes a bond with the members. I know some members have changed over the years, but, now, of course, Rob [HalfordPRIEST singer] and myself went through all that, sleeping in the van outside the gigs in January in Norway and stuff like that, things that you wouldn’t dream of doing now. And if your own kids suggested it, you’d do your best to stop them. But we did all of that, and it creates that bond, and it’s still there with myself and Rob.

“Of course, Glenn [TiptonPRIEST guitarist] as well. And I think it is that. We’ve had personnel changes over the years, but they’ve come gradually, if you like. I mean, you say Richie [FaulknerPRIEST guitarist] being the new guy in the band. He’s been with us now for 13 years. So he’s spent a lot of time with the rest of us, and that philosophy sort of rubbed off on him as well. I mean, Andy‘s [SneapPRIEST producer and touring guitarist] been with us now since 2018. So he’s getting it as well. Of course, Scott‘s [TravisPRIEST drummer] been with us now since ’89. And so the band’s roots and that core — I don’t know… It’s love, really. It’s love for one another. It’s rubbed off on those as well, and that’s been the secret behind it. We’ve all got personality quirks, things that drive each other mad. But you’ve always got that anchor. You always have that anchor, what’s built the band over these years. And that’s continuing with all the members of the band to this day.”

In a recent interview on Full Metal Jackie‘s radio show, JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Rob Halford was asked about what lies ahead for him and his bandmates.

“It’s just this wonderful, wonderful renaissance going around, not only for PRIEST, but for metal in general, for bands that were there from the start,” Halford responded. “Our good friends SAXON, who we worked with recently in Europe — we were selling out places all over Europe because people not only are the fans of the band, but there are also people that were maybe on the outside looking and going, ‘I’ve gotta check this out. What is this happening now? Why is there such a buzz about these bands?’ And so we’re thriving on that, we’re thriving on that.”

“We’re so grateful and honored and humbled to be in this place all these years later and still have this thing called relevance,” he continued. “We’re a relevant heavy metal band that’s not living on their past glories. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But we’ve always felt that who we are and what we’re about is representative of what we’re doing and saying now. So to have this glorious experience with [PRIEST‘s latest album] Invincible Shield, and it’s not dissipating.

“There’s still tremendous love and interest for that particular album and this band. And so we’re just out there roaring away, giving you all of these moments from PRIEST right from the beginning of our metal lives to where we are right now with Invincible Shield.”
