A highly complex construct of math metal, crushing death elements and virtuosic shoegaze moments – LETTERS FROM THE COLONY create more than just songs. The young progressive death metal architects from Borlänge in Sweden are building tracks that are able to catapult them right into the league of bands such as MESHUGGAH, OPETH or GOJIRA with their first album only just on the horizon.
The five young musicians are proud to announce that they have signed a deal with Nuclear Blast, while their debut album “Vignette” is currently in the making. But lowering their sights for their debut album or taking just small steps at the beginning of their career has always been out of the question for LETTERS FROM THE COLONY. Therefore their first full-length release is already being mastered by Jens Bogren (DIMMU BORGIR, OPETH, PARADISE LOST), whilst Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN, LINDEMANN) did not shy away from declaring a big recommendation for the band.
LETTERS FROM THE COLONY build upon the intersection between perfection and ordered chaos; the unbridled joy of experimentation and virtuosic instrument mastery. They deliver highly complex songs full of unbound aggression, progressive structures, but also do not shy away from playing saxophone alongside guitars or sampling the call of a deer into a track!
Obviously the cover artwork choice for the band is another proof of the quintet’s dazzling multi-faceted qualities, and it arrives as rare and vibrant as they come, pushing LETTERS FROM THE COLONY into a completely new niche compartment of technically challenging extreme metal.
I love metal music. I play drums in a local band. I have big interests in IT, science and books.
