Otep Shamaya, the iconic frontwoman of OTEP, has made the difficult decision to retire from music.
After revealing that she was “liquidating” her “extensive music equipment,” including autographed guitars from tours and studios, a drum set, stage lighting, smoke machines, and stage monitors, many fans reached out to ask why she was selling these items and if it meant she was retiring from music.
In response, Otep commented beneath her original post: “Yes, I’m retiring. For real. For good. My reasons will be given before year’s end. Thank u to my real ones”.
In September 2023, OTEP released their latest studio album, The God Slayer, through Cleopatra. The album, a follow-up to 2018’s Kult 45, features a blend of original tracks alongside reimagined versions of popular hits from a range of artists, including Eminem, Billie Eilish, SLIPKNOT, Lil Peep, and Olivia Rodrigo, incorporating influences from pop, rap, and grunge.
