Among all Metal subgenres, Black Metal is the one that takes the term odd to the next level. It’s not only the music, but also attitude and iconography. The idea is to be a kind of sonic nightmare and chaos. Not only chaos, but also mayhem. By the way, mayhem is a term that defines Black Metal well. KIR and “L’appel du vide” are here to prove my point as the band takes the idea of musical chaos to the other level.
As I always say the more I understand about an album tittle the I understand its music. “L’appel du vide” stands for “the call of the void,” what totally explains the music I hear now. As usual Black Metal has this power of bringing out to life all human emotions, I mean, all human emotions that plastic music they make swallow – not me – avoid. Metal music, not only Black Metal, dares to talk about real life human problems and not only that fake happiness everyone talks about.
“L’appel du vide” commences with an intro called “Destination Void” which is the bridge to insane “Monument” that is a monument – no pun intended – to musical chaos and mayhem. It’s possible to hear, first in the background, a pounding drumming that goes in a crescendo until reaches its apex that is “Monument.” The album reflects all the pain and misery one can feel. It means all the drag we feel. That’s why tracks as “Apoptosis” experiment rises and falls in mood and speed. It’s KIR showing how real life is and all its ups and downs, more downs than ups I must say.
Musicwise, KIR go a little further than its peers. It’s amazing how the band works with lots of cacophony as in the aforementioned grand finale “Apoptosis” and “Monument.” In fact, the guitars are responsible for those moments. Here and there there some effects to stress the experience of void and nothingness – weird, huh? That all makes “L’appel du vide” an album not to miss.
KIR “L’appel du vide” was released on December 06th.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
